Less than a month to go now! In this second weekly update you can learn about this curious “LC Classic”. What is an LC? What makes it a Classic? And do I really have to play? As you may have noticed from the Wombok flyer (click here if you’ve lost yours), on Tuesday 25 Sept, the day before the wedding, we are holding “The LC Classic”. It really isn’t that much of a mystery, simply put, it’s a game of backyard cricket and we want everyone to participate! The LC Classic is usually played at the Skitch family home on Australia Day every year since its inception in 1994. Chris and his mate Lenno came up with the idea all those years ago when they were brewing their own beer, creatively named - “LC”. They had an oversupply of their beloved homebrew so thought the best solution was to ask some friends over, play a spot of cricket and down a cold LC or two. And so the LC Classic was born. You can discover more about the history of the game by visiting the Official LC Classic Almanac located here (note construction of the site has stalled somewhat): http://lc.wombok.com The best way to describe the LC is though photos, so I have put a few together below, however before you go though them I should point out that a number of traditions have evolved over the years. Some (but not all) include :
- Wearing a silly hat
- Carrying a drink on the pitch at all times
- Elaborate opening ceremonies including singing and poetry
- War cries from the hill
- Fancy dress outfits
- Lenno & Skitchy disputing a decision and beating each other up
- Awards ceremony
